Whale Watching

The Importance of Whale Watching for Conservation and the Economy

Currently, whale and dolphin watching tourism, better known internationally as whale watching, is practiced in more than 100 countries and territories, generating revenues for coastal communities that exceed two billion dollars according to the most recent studies.

It is a proven fact over more than fifty years of this activity around the world that, if practiced in a sustainable way, following the legal norms, the Whale Watching Tourism does not impact either the individuals or the populations of the target whales. In addition, this activity generates thousands of direct and indirect jobs and much needed income in the communities where it is practiced, and leads millions of people to have direct contact with the majestic presence of whales - an unforgettable experience that turns many into defenders of marine life. All of this makes the Baleia Jubarte Project support the development of this activity in Brazil.

Through training, monitoring, partnerships and promotion activities, the Project helps to develop whale watching in Brazil as a tool for conservation and sustainable development.

In the partner operators, the Baleia Jubarte Project embarks its team members, aiming at the same time to monitor the activity, help in the environmental interpretation for the visitors and to develop research activities, making tourism boats platforms of opportunity to expand our scientific knowledge about humpbacks. .
