Entre os dias 25 e 29 de novembro, em São Sebastião (SP), o Projeto Baleia Jubarte co-organizou com o ICMBio, por meio do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa e Conservação de Mamíferos Aquáticos (CMA), mais um Curso de Treinamento para Desenredamento de Grandes Cetáceos. A iniciativa contou com o apoio e participação também do Instituto Argonauta, Projeto Baleia à Vista e outras instituições da sociedade civil, bem como com a participação da equipe do Refúgio de Vida Silvestre de Alcatrazes.
O desenredamento ou desemalhe é uma técnica para retirar equipamentos de pesca presos em cetáceos, minimizando o sofrimento e impactos à saúde desses animais e os grandes riscos a quem executa esse procedimento complexo. Essa atividade é regulamentada pela Portaria Conjunta MMA/IBAMA/ICMBio nº3/2024 e faz parte do Plano de Ação Nacional para Conservação de Cetáceos Marinhos Ameaçados de Extinção coordenados pelo CMA/ICMBio. Ao avistar uma baleia enredada, mantenha uma distância segura do animal e entre em contato com a autoridade ambiental mais próxima da sua localidade. Assim, as equipes treinadas podem ser acionadas e a resposta à ocorrência pode ser tratada de forma segura e adequada.
