Expedição Sudeste 2024 movimenta cenário da pesquisa e turismo na região
Durante os meses de junho e julho o Projeto Baleia Jubarte realizou mais uma vez a sua Expedição Sudeste, desta vez percorrendo as águas do Rio de Janeiro entre Paraty e Arraial do Cabo.
Foram 26 cruzeiros realizados, totalizando cerca de 135 horas no mar e 775 milhas náuticas percorridas. Foram registradas 223 baleias-jubarte, uma delas filhote, e realizadas 124 foto-identificações para compor o catálogo individual de jubartes do Projeto.
Também foram obtidas cinco biópsias para análise genética e de contaminantes e 25 fotogrametrias, que ajudam a determinar faixa etária e estado de saúde do animal. Durante a Expedição também foram registradas cinco outras espécies de cetáceos, incluindo uma fêmea com filhote da ainda ameaçada baleia franca.
Foram realizadas também diversas saídas ao mar com parceiros e imprensa, divulgando a importância cada vez maior do Sudeste brasileiro como habitat de baleias e golfinhos a ser estudado e protegido!
