O Projeto Baleia Jubarte, que nasceu durante as atividades de implantação do Parque Nacional Marinho dos Abrolhos no distante ano de 1988, teve o privilégio de participar das comemorações dos 40 anos desse que é nosso primeiro Parque Marinho, e cuja consolidação se deu graças ao esforço de sucessivos gestores e dos funcionários que se sucederam, primeiro no IBDF, depois no IBAMA e atualmente no ICMBio.
Durante essas quatro décadas o Parque provou sua importância, permitindo a proteção dos corais e a recuperação parcial de espécies ameaçadas que frequentam suas águas e ilhas. Entretanto, sua área representa uma porção ínfima – menos de 2%! - do inestimável Banco dos Abrolhos, que precisa urgentemente ser melhor protegido.
Por isso, defendemos que o atual governo retome imediatamente os estudos e o diálogo para a ampliação do Parque. Esperamos seguir contribuindo para que esse novo marco na proteção de Abrolhos se torne realidade o quanto antes!
